The shipping costs are blantantly used to steer sales to buyers within easy pickup distance. I went to bid on several silk flower arrangements, only to discover the shipping cost from Cincinnati to Detroit was more than $154 for each arrangment.
There is no way two orchid stems in a six inch pot cost that much to ship. All EBTH has to do is distort the shipping size by a width factor and the shipping cost becomes unreasonable for bidding on an item. Despite writing them multiple times, somehow they are never able to send back a correction (in three days or more) before the item closes. Check for yourself.
Take a look at shipping costs on the item you wish to bid on.
A wooden side table is $37 to ship to Detroit, but silk flowers are $154. Guess its a good way to get kickbacks from pickers and second hand shops who want to add to their inventory.
